“Rock, Rattle and Roll on Rome” say Graham, Rob, and Simone… the brave souls who are soon to embark on the Staples2Naples (S2N) Rally, as members of team Never Mind the Bollards.
S2N is the original and leading European banger rally. First run in 2003, it has grown to become one of the most sought after dates on the calendar. Lasting four days from September 18th-21st and covering around 1500 miles, 80 teams will start in Calais, travel through France, Switzerland and Italy (at least) to reach their final destination…the fringe of Naples (for those who don’t want to venture into the unchartered territory of a “very beautiful city or dirty hole depending on your outlook in life”).
Not only is it a chance for adventurous folk with extra time on their hands to challenge themselves to reach the finish line in their £150 bangers, but the team that manages to secure the most points over four days of hard driving and (sometimes quirky) challenges will get £1000 in cash.
Never Mind the Bollards have selected the PRS for Music Members Benevolent Fund as their charity of choice, to help raise funds and auction their labour of love at the end of the Rally. Although we can’t guarantee the car’s final condition…it will have seen and done the unimaginable, travelling on a journey through sweat, laughter and tears! After all, it is all about survival of the fittest.
This is no ordinary car, the once Bugatti Veyron Estate (ok, Honda), has been spruced up and is ready for any occasion. Not only has the car been painted in the colours of the Sex Pistols Never Mind the Bollocks album, but it has been fitted with:
-A stereo that goes up to vol. 12
-Metallic pink floor mats
-Pink fluffy seat covers
-Leopard skin fur upholstery
-Maplin compass
-Multi-coloured music sensitive chandelier
-Sexy blue down lighting
-Solar powered funk lights
-A pink exhaust system
-Pink furry dice

DAY 7... THE DREAM'S TRAGIC ENDING....

So Rob and Al got to race around the ring. We have footage of the Honda and the Golf expertly driven at high speed around The Nordschleife; the most dangerous and demanding purpose built motor racing circuit in the world.
Ironically it was to be a glorious last breath; for on the way to pick up Simsie who had been filming the car going around the track Rob was involved in an accident with a man in a rental vehicle and left the road.
The adventure came to a dramatic conclusion; and if the intention was to go to the knackers' yard The Bollards' bright pink nd yellow car did it in uncompromising style...
She will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed.
